Boston Kid Beanie Knitting Pattern

If you like to knit hats to keep your grandchildren warm in the winter the Boston Kid Beanie is a fun knit hat pattern to try.

I made this knit hat pattern up as I went along for my 1 year old grandson, then made one for my 3 year old and then another for my 5 year old!

This little Boston Kid Beanie is such a simple pattern that I can knit one in an evening while watching TV.

Needles

  • Gauge is 4 stitches to the inch.
  • Size 8 needle with 16″ cord.
  • My favorite needles are Knit Picks Shorties, have you tried them? They work particularly well for knitting small projects in the round.  I just love them!

I highly recommend Knitpicks Circular Needle Sets.

Yarn

Choose 2 contrasting colors of worsted weight or aran weight yarn.  I used about 1/4 skein of each color of Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn.  And I really do love that yarn!  It is acrylic so it’s great for children who don’t wear wool well.  It has great stitch definition and washes like a dream.

From me to you: a 40% off coupon that never expires from Hobby Lobby.

I Love This YarnSome other choices:

  • Another good choice is Knit Picks yarn packs.  You can make a few hats with this wonderful yarn and save some money.

  • Here are a variety of worsted weight yarns that I also love on Etsy

Big Tip!

Label your knit goodies!  You don’t want the kids to lose those wonderful hats, sweaters and blankets that you knit for them.  My daughter swears by these amazing labels that last through washing and just about anything else the kids do to their stuff

Pompoms

→Make them yourself

I like to make pompoms using this handy little Clover pompom maker.  This is a great tutorial on how to make pompoms with the Clover pompom maker.

Have you ever tried the faux fur pompoms from Etsy?  They are not expensive!  Here are some wonderful inexpensive options.  They come in 4, 5 and 6″ bundles of faux fur and are available in lots of colors.

I think the pompom finishes off the Boston Kid Beanie just perfectly!
