I love a good, stashbusting baby blanket knit pattern with a matching hat.  Do you ever go into a store and see an adorable baby blanket that you just know you could knit yourself?

This blanket has the bright colors reminiscent of the Hudson Bay and Pottery Barn blankets. This was my son’s favorite baby blanket for his little guy.  This baby blanket works for both boys and girls.

It is an easy and quick knit that can be made with almost any yarn for any width and length. It has an interesting texture and is fun to knit. It’s super squishy and will definitely be a hit at a baby shower or for newborn gifting.

You may want to check out the reviews for the Biddeford Baby Blanket on Ravelry and Etsy.  It is a highly rated pattern and rated easy by Ravelers.

Yarn

I would like to suggest 3 different brands of yarn that work well for this project.

1. Hobby Lobby “I Love This Yarn”

I used approximately 600 yards  I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby. This yarn washes and dries so nicely.  My daughter has several handknit blankets from me that have lasted 5 years of steady washing.
Here are the specific colors I used, amounts are approximate
200 yards Antique White
75 yards Medium Blue
75 yards Red
75 yards Sungold
75 yards Navy
75 yards Greybeard
75 yards Ocean

2. Lion Brand Yarn

From the Lion Brand site – Even the best yarns wear down with frequent use and machine washing – until now. Lion Brand® created Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling™ for all your favorite projects that see a lot of wear and tear. Even before it is spun into a premium 4-ply acrylic, the fiber is treated to resist pilling. And, when pills do form (due to frequent use and washing), no need to pick them off – just throw the item in the washer and the pills disappear. But that’s not the only great thing about Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling. It is super soft, has great stitch definition, and comes in an extensive palette of 18 solids, 12 multi-colors, 6 heathers and 6 marls. This is the perfect yarn for those afghans the family loves to snuggle under on movie night, the scarf and hat you wear every day, and baby’s favorite blankie that gets dragged through the playground.

I couldn’t agree more, this yarn is fantastic.

3. Brava Worsted Yarn from Knitpicks

From Knitpicks – Versatility meets affordability; Brava is a 100% acrylic yarn that will keep up with all of life’s adventures! Gentle enough for sensitive skin, Brava is hard-wearing yarn that works wonders for projects where durability and easy-care is a must. Hypoallergenic and machine washable, there is no fiber more accessible and dependable than acrylic, perfect for children, new knitters, and charity projects. With so much flexibility, generous yardage, and a wonderful range of bright and vibrant colors, every crafter can enjoy the endless possibilities of Brava.

Brava Worsted is a genuinely all-purpose yarn, with the flexibility and range of colors suitable for almost any project. Knit accessories such as hats and scarves to show support for your favorite sports team, gift baby blankets and garments that new parents are sure to love, crochet afghans that will last for years, or simply use Brava Worsted for any charity projects.
