Candy Kisses Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern
Candy Kisses grew out of my love for knitting my beginner level Tiny Kisses baby blanket pattern. After knitting several of those blankets, I started wondering what would happen if I added something a little different.
I experimented with stripes, played around with a few ideas, and eventually settled on wide sections of smooth stockinette between the rows of kisses. It was exactly what I was looking for. The stockinette section is smooth and soft, while the textured rows add just enough interest to make the blanket feel special.
One of my favorite things about this pattern is how differently it looks depending on the yarn you choose. Knit it in a solid color for a classic look, pair a solid with a variegated yarn, or have fun experimenting with colors that make it uniquely yours.
Once you’ve knit a few repeats, the pattern settles into a comfortable rhythm. It’s the kind of project that’s relaxing to pick up whenever you have a little knitting time.

The original sample was knit with a soft solid paired with a colorful variegated yarn, but that’s just one possibility. I’ve seen beautiful versions knit in two solids, a single color throughout, and all kinds of fun color combinations.
If you’re standing in the yarn aisle trying to decide what goes together, don’t overthink it. Pick colors that make you smile. This stitch pattern has a way of making almost every combination look beautiful.
I designed the pattern using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn, but any worsted weight yarn with a similar gauge will work just as well.

Yardage is approximate and may vary depending on your gauge and yarn choice. Plan on the Multicolored (MC) yarn using about 55% to 60% of the total yardage.
💡Candylou Tip
Don’t overthink your color choices. If your solid yarn coordinates with a few of the colors in the multicolored yarn, chances are they’ll look beautiful together. Sometimes the combinations you’re least sure about end up becoming your favorites.
Needles & Gauge
Knitpicks: Mosaic Options Interchangeable Circular Needles
- Needles: US Size 8 (5 mm) circular needles with at least a 24″ (60 cm) cord
- Gauge: 18 stitches = 4″ (10 cm) in stockinette stitch
Do I Have to Match Gauge Exactly?
Not necessarily! Since you’re knitting a blanket rather than a fitted garment, being slightly off won’t ruin your project. If your gauge is a little different, your blanket will simply turn out a little larger or smaller than the finished sizes listed.
I do recommend checking your gauge before you begin. Matching it as closely as possible will help ensure your blanket turns out the size you expect.
