Tips on how I make my Christmas Stockings

1. Head to Ravelry to get your copy of the Cascade Christmas Stocking Pattern

2. Then upload the pattern to the Knit Companion App.  It’s free and incredibly useful!  I use the yellow line to highlight where I am in the pattern so no more counting, especially with charts involved.

3. Select 6 or so colors of worsted weight yarn.  I prefer using Plymouth Encore Yarn because it has 25% wool and has great stitch definition for the designs.

4. Get your circular needles out.  I use size 8.  Have you ever tried the Knit Picks Shorties?  They are particularly great for knitting smaller projects in the round.

5. Begin the pattern.  I like to knit white for 6 rows and then K2 Red, K2 Green for 5 rows.  Then a row of white.

6. I like to customize my stockings with a name.  I use a chart I found from an old Mary Maxim book . It’s not always available but you can find alphabet charts on the internet that work well.

7. From there I pick a chart from Group 1, then Group 2, just as the instructions say.

8. This is the first time I had ever done an after thought heel and I found the pattern extremely easy to understand.

9. The body of the stocking has an ‘all around’ pattern that runs from 2-4″ above the heel to 2″ below.

10. Pick another chart, then knit the toe.

11.  Then it’s time to knit the heel.

12.  Last on the list is to weave in all those ends!  Pick a Netflix show to watch and before you know it, your all done. No wait… don’t forget the loop!  THEN you are done!

For more ideas of color and chart combinations, here are some more stockings that I have knit from this pattern:

The Cascade Christmas Pattern shows in detail how to knit the toe and the heel and I have never had any trouble understanding it.  I’ve knit this stocking pattern at least 2 dozen times!

Hopefully you will have a good idea of how I knit my Christmas Stockings and may even want to try them yourself!
