You Are My Sunshine Stroller Blanket Knitting Pattern

Here is a sunshine themed baby blanket that can be knit for both baby boys and girls! I designed this to be given to a new mommy at her “You Are My Sunshine” themed baby shower. The yellow is for sunshine, and the white and gray is for “you make me happy when skies are gray”.

The pattern is for a stroller sized blanket, using size 8 needles and worsted weight yarn. At 4.5 stitches per inch, the blanket will be about 22 x 26 when finished.

The stitches used are Knit, Purl, YO and K2tog. There is a chart for the sun followed by written directions for those who prefer not to use a chart.

Most of the yarn required is yellow, with some partial skeins of white and gray. Different color combinations could be used, limited only by your imagination!

I like my baby blankets to tell a story. This is a fun and quick knit which will be cherished for years to come!

Yarn

I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn for this project.

→300 yards of Yellow (Hobby Lobby “I Love This Yarn” in Cream, which is really a soft yellow)
→40 yards of White (Hobby Lobby “I Love This Yarn” in Antique White)
→25 yards of Grey (Hobby Lobby “I Love This Yarn” in Grey Mist)

Have you tried Lion Brand Basic Stitch Acrylic Yarn? It’s another great blanket yarn that goes in the washer and dryer and just gets softer and softer with time.

Needles

Next step – gather my needles.  I always knit with circular needles because the work can rest safely on the cable when I am not knitting.  The needles I have been using lately are the Knitpicks Circular Interchangeable Needles.  I really just love them.  For my baby blankets and the Hobby Lobby yarn I like, I always choose a size 8 needle.

I have been loving this needle organizer from Etsy.  It keeps everything together in one place.  I can throw it in my knitting bag and everything stays put.

Needle Organizing Case

This weekend I am heading to Boston to visit my daughter and grandson.  I will probably switch over to these needles because the case is super sturdy and certified for airport security.  Look at these needles, aren’t they so pretty?
