Whale of a Time Nautical Themed Baby Blanket

Whale of a Time Baby Blanket is a nautical and whale themed blanket that will be a hit for new mommies.  There are 2 chevron sections, then in the middle are some cute little whales.  The blanket finishes off with two chevron sections.  It is great for a whale or nautical themed nursery.  It’s also a great way to up your knitting game by using a very simple chart with one color only, no stranding.

The stitches you need to know for this pattern are:

➰ Knit
➰ Purl
➰ M1R (make one right)
➰ M1L (make one left)
➰ SSK
➰ K2tog

There is a chart for the whale but it is also written out. The whales are made with knits and purls. The other stitches are for the chevron sections.

The blanket uses about 75 yards for the borders, 100 yards for each color of the chevron sections and about 100 yards for the whales.

The first time I made this blanket it was for a new baby whose nursery was going to be a whale theme. It was a huge hit at the baby shower!

Needles

Next step – gather my needles.  I always knit with circular needles because the work can rest safely on the cable when I am not knitting.  The needles I have been using lately are the Knitpicks Circular Interchangeable Needles.  I really just love them.  For my baby blankets and the Hobby Lobby yarn I like, I always choose a size 8 needle.
