butterfly and hearts baby blanket

Butterfly Love Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern

This Butterfly Love Baby Blanket is a pattern that features butterflies and hearts.  It also has a fun chevron pattern that adds texture to the blanket.  There are 5 sections knit all in one piece. It takes about 350 yards of yarn to make a 24” square blanket. The stitches that you will need to know are:

➰ Knit
➰ Purl
➰ SSK
➰ M1R
➰ M1L
➰ K2tog

The images are formed by knitting and purling. There are 2 charts and each are also written out for those who prefer written directions. There are 2 small chevron sections as well.

I wrote up this pattern because a friend of mine was decorating a nursery for her new baby girl in hearts and butterflies. It was a fun and easy knit and she just loved it!

Yarn

I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn for this project.  I had a some skeins in my stash and was happy to use them up.

I used about 3/4 skein of orange, 1/2 skein of white and 1/4 skein of green.  What a great stashbuster!  Don’t you love turning leftover skeins of yarn into something adorable and useful like a baby blanket?

I Love This YarnHave you tried Lion Brand Basic Stitch Acrylic Yarn? It’s another great blanket yarn that goes in the washer and dryer and just gets softer and softer with time.

Needles

Next step – gather my needles.  I always knit with circular needles because the work can rest safely on the cable when I am not knitting.  The needles I have been using lately are the Knitpicks Circular Interchangeable Needles.  I really just love them.  For my baby blankets and the Hobby Lobby yarn I like, I always choose a size 8 needle.

I have been loving this needle organizer from Etsy.  It keeps everything together in one place.  I can throw it in my knitting bag and everything stays put.
